Amelia Island Book Festival - February

Wordsmiths gather on Amelia Island each year for the Book Festival, featuring author talks, workshops, readings, luncheons and celebrations of the love of books in historic Fernandina Beach. Authors of all generes including novels of nonfiction, mystery, history, adventure, Southern literature, poetry and books for young readers. Writers' workshops will be held at Florida State College at Yulee's Betty P. Cook Nassau County Campus on Friday, February 18th, 2011 from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm. All-day workshop tickets purchased early are $65 (but after January 30, 2011 $85). Visitors can browse the "Book Marketplace" at St. Peter's campus downtown next to Centre Street (at corner of 8th Street and Atlantic Ave.), Fernandina on Saturday, February 19th, 9 am to 4 pm. Many Readers' Workshops for FREE will also be held at the St. Peter's campus 9:30 am - 4:00pm on Saturday, as well as a FEATURED FREE KID's AREA: Activities for children, readings by authors, geared to kids aged 3-12

Amelia Island Film Festival - February

"Meet Me In Paradise." A celebration of film screenings, workshops, lectures, exhibits and more at venues across Amelia Island. The film festival screens more than 25 films, including shorts and features, including student, independent, documentaries, Sci-Fi, and classic films.

Amelia Island Garden Show - March

Second annual garden show at Central Park on Atlantic Avenue in Fernandina Beach, Florida. More than 50 vendors (growers and nurseries from around the state) offer a large selection including: flowers, plants, fruit trees, palms, orchids, herbs, container gardens, native plants, butterfly-friendly plants, shrubs, garden accessories and more. Experts will provide info on "greening" your home, yard, and garden. "The Raptor Experience," with live birds of prey will also be featured.

Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance - March

Want to experience one of the most amazing auto events in the USA? The posh event of the year on this northeast Florida resort barrier island is the Concours d'Elegance. (Watch the amazing video of last year's incredible event below.) The lush green 10th and 18th golf fairways of Summer Beach are lined with millions of dollars worth of gleaming, glitzy collector automobiles, dubbed the "Field of Dreams." Whether you like speed, flash or elegance, around 250 vehicles are showcased on Amelia Island. Katie Ride for Life - April

Each April, the Katie Caples Foundation sponsors the Katie Ride for Life. The Katie ride is a cycling event, with courses of 7 to 100 miles (supported fully) for riders of all levels, to raise awareness of organ donation. The Katie Walk offers a 5k and 10k through beautiful Fort Clinch State Park. Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival - May

One of the premier festivals in the Southeast, the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival brings together the love of shrimp and the enjoyment of arts and entertainment. Sport Fishing Tournament of Champions - June

The Nassau Sport Fishing Association's Tournament of Champions is held in June at Fernandina Harbor Marina, located at the foot of Centre Street. This Event has become the third largest in the Southern Kingfish Association (SKA), and is part of the hotly contested division that attracts the world's best kingfish anglers. The Tournament begins Thursday and wraps up on Saturday with the fish fry, live entertainment and awards ceremony are open to the public.

Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival - June

One of the premier music events in the Southeast, and in some of the most original and beautiful venues, the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival continues to grow in popularity each year. The Festival was created by Christopher Rex, who serves as artistic and general director, and is the principle cellist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The Festival begins with educational concerts in the schools, time spent at the Boys and Girls Club, and at open air concerts in the park, free to the public. They continue in the historic St. Peter's Episcopal Church, under the stars at Fort Clinch State Park, at nighttime hangouts for Beer and G Strings with jazz vocalists Luciana Souza and Rachel Barton Pine, and in the ballroom of the elegant Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island.

Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament - July

The Greater Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament, held each year in July at Jim King Park & Boat Ramp on the ICW, is the largest kingfish tournament in the country. In addition to the general tournament, this spectacular event also includes a Junior Angler Tournament presented by Carolina Skiff, Food Festival, live entertainment, and much, much more.

Great Southern Tailgate Cook-Off - August

In August, get set for great barbeque, music at Main Beach and lots of hometown fun with the Great Southern Tailgate Cook-off, a Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned event. Also a part of the Florida State Championship circuit, the barbeque spectacular features professional and local backyard teams competing for more than $20,000 in cash and prizes. Players are up-and-coming junior players and players that are making a comeback to the higher level professional events.

Amelia Island Jazz Festival - October

The Amelia Island Jazz Festival provides a rich, diverse cultural experience via the sounds, excitement and vitality of great jazz. Held annually during the first week of October, and headed by Artistic Director Les DeMerie, the Festival promotes world-class jazz, from Swing to Contemporary, Dixieland to Big Band. Grammy winners David Sanborn and Ramsey Lewis are among the icons to have appeared. As part of its educational program, the Festival awards a scholarship and offers jazz demonstrations in schools, museums and senior citizen centers.

Petanque America Open - November

Amelia Island is the venue for the international community of Petanque (paytonk), with its fourth annual International Petanque Tournament in November. At the downtown marina, surrounded by plenty of cafes, restaurants, and shops, more than 80 teams of two players competed in 2009 and more than 100 teams in 2010. Founded in France, and with increasing popularity worldwide and especially in the United States, the tournament brings players from more than half the states, Canada and Europe.

Bed & Breakfast Cookie Tour - November

For a view of some of Amelia's most beautiful homes, now B&Bs, take time for Amelia Island's Bed and Breakfast Cookie Tour. With still temperate beautiful weather, visitors come from nearby cities and towns to revel in the beauty of Amelia's B&Bs decorated for the holidays and staffed for historic information. Each stop features delicious cookies and their recipes printed on keepsake cards. Proceeds benefit local charities. Horse-drawn carriages provide transportation. Holiday Home Tour - December

Celebrate the "Golden Age" of Fernandina Beach with the architecture of a small Victorian seaport town from the late 1800s. The annual Holiday Home Tour, benefitting the Amelia Island Museum of History, showcases private vintage home, open to the public only for this special occasion. The trolley transports patrons from home to home, all of which are decorated personally for the holiday season. The Holiday Home tour provides an elegant facet of to the holiday season.
